Just like that it is a fishing blog again

I just got back from fly fishing for grain fed rainbows.  I have some HD video to work through and edit before a full post.  In the mean time lets play a game, while I tease you with a picture.

How long and how heavy is the trout below? Leave your guesses in the comment section.  I'll shed some light on the subject when I post the full write up in a couple days. Bonus points awarded if you guess the fly and how I caught it.

  1. Some beautiful fish clif! I'm guessing 18' and 4 lbs.

  2. Clif, I am going to say 22" or better on some streamer pattern at the stock pond. Is this from your fly fishing instruction event?

  3. @Cofisher: You see the hook jaw? Let me know when you're ready to play this game for realz.

@Mel: Unlike Howard, you've probably caught a trout so I consider your guess educated.

And BOOM! Out of no where Lola jumps in, love it.

  4. I don't know how big it is (since I specialize in "smalerrfish") but you clearly used a fishfinder from Fishfinders.com to find that PIG! Stockie or not, that's a biggun.

  5. It's about as big as you will be catching left and right in 2 weeks. Am I close??

  6. Okay Clif you found me out. I've never caught a fish over 8 inches so I just multiplied that by the size of your skinny chest and divided by my IQ and got 18". I think you caught it on a nightcrawler. And what's with the boga grip...that's a red herring. (the boga, not the fish)

  7. @T-Rage: You must be getting paid per link. Perhaps I should have negotiated harder.

@Dr Timmy: I hope you are close.

@Cofisher: You make me laugh, I decided on the gripper because the fish still had some life left and was putting up a good fight. The first picture attempt introduced this fish to the pavement and I didn't want to do that again.

  8. I love how you guys come up with your guesses. I was guesstimating based on what I've given birth to in the past. Hope that still counts! ;)

  12. Whew, guess the size is a popular game. We'll have to play more often.

@Lola: I wondered how you came up with the measurements. It counts, but I guarantee you'll be disappointed with the prize.

    @Paula: I sure agree.

@Ivan: That's the longest guess yet, how brave of you.

@Nate: Won't you be upset if you're 0.03lb over? Didn't I mention this is closest without going over? No? Well, it is.

  13. I was there so I know what it was caught on and how it was caught, but I don't want to spoil the fun. Had fun fishing with you clif, it was fun!

Clif reserves the right to delete your comment if he is so inclined, but he is a pretty liberal guy so post away and see what happens.
